LYE FOR SOAP MAKING -
It Doesn't Say "Lye" on My Soap Bar Ingredients
If it is real soap or contains real soap, it must be made with lye!
However the chemical reaction of making soap is called saponification, once it is complete, the lye and oil molecules have combined and chemically changed into soap and glycerin.
If the soap is made properly, the lye is used up in the saponification process to turn oil into soap.
Therefore there may be no lye present in the finished bars of soap or shampoo. While all real soap must be made with lye, no lye remains in finished products after saponification is properly complete
Derived from natural citrus fruits, this fine granular is a common ingredient in Bath Bombs as well as used to adjust pH of products. Also acts as a preservative and sequestering agent helping to prevent change in colour, flavour, texture and appearance.
Potassium Sorbate is a widely used food preservative that is gaining popularity in natural cosmetic products. It is the natural potassium salt of sorbic acid, which when dissolved in water based products, is effective against yeasts, molds and select bacteria. While Potassium Sorbate has shown to be quite an effective preservative in a wide range of personal care products, it is not on its own a full spectrum preservative.
